The Performing Arts Secretariat aims to engage students to use performing arts as a platform to reach out to the community. In particular, we aim to provide students opportunities to express their talents through theatre. We would like to gather young theatre enthusiasts to take their steps into the world of performing arts in order to hone their talents and communicate to the masses through the theatrical platform.
The Performing Arts Secretariat annually showcase our original theatrical production, Pentas Budaya by NUS undergraduates themselves. In this production, everything is by NUS undergraduates themselves. We work in a team to gather all theatre enthusiasts and even write our own songs and script. This production is a mega event to showcase our hard work and talented students to the public.
However unlike other years, this year’s production is more special. We have decided to collaborate with Singapore Management University’s own Malay Cultural Club. We will be working hand-in hand to make this year’s production a bigger and better event. This collaboration aims to attract a bigger audience into the performing arts scene and also to provide a opportunity for students from both schools to build memorable relationships.
Through this mega production and collaboration with SMU, we seek to inculcate better appreciation of the Malay Performing Arts in Singapore to the community, especially students. We would like to preserve the authenticity and uniqueness of the Malay Performing Arts in Singapore and uphold the knowledge and interest of performing arts in our community.
